WARREN – Darlene Jones of Warren was recently named chief executive officer (CEO) of the St. Vincent de Paul Society Council of Trumbull/Ashtabula/Portage District.

Jones was regional director of business development for ValleyCare Health System, which operated Youngstown’s Northside Hospital, from 2013 until the system was purchased by Steward Health Care Network in May 2017. Then, she was promoted to regional executive director of operations for Steward.

A native of Dover, Ohio, she graduated from Wittenberg University with a degree in business administration. Before going to ValleyCare, she served as president and managing partner for Phoenix Development of Trumbull County, with which she is still affiliated, and also worked as a corporate and non-profit business consultant with Strategic Business Solutions, working one-on-one with clients.

As CEO for St. Vincent de Paul, Jones will be responsible for restructuring the organization, which will include implementation of a new business model, reorganization and expansion of current programs and services, assessment of gaps/overlaps in area safety-net services, as well as donor development.

“At this point in my career I am so pleased to be able to use the skills I have acquired to make a difference in the lives of people in our community who are struggling,” Jones said.

“Although there is much work to be done in the St. Vincent de Paul restructuring process, I am already finding that this is one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done,” she noted. Her office is located in the new administrative building on Niles Road here.

A parishioner of St. Mary Parish here, Jones serves on the parish council and as a Eucharistic minister and youth minister. She formerly served as parish social chairwoman.

For many years, she was chairwoman of both the Blessed Sacrament Wishes N Dreams program and John F. Kennedy High School’s Just For Kicks Benefit Auction.

In addition, Jones volunteers with the Buddy Walk of the Down Syndrome Association of the Valley, the American Heart Association Heart Walk, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life and Boy Scouts of America, Troop 101, where she served as advancement leader and executive committee member.

She is married to Dr. Tom Jones, Jr., an orthopedic surgeon practicing here. All three of their children graduated from John F. Kennedy Catholic School: Maddie, 2012; Connor, 2013; and Kyle, 2014.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society is an association of Catholic lay men and women serving the underprivileged. The organization operates a dining hall and thrift store locally and provides daily home-cooked meals, food pantry boxes, low-cost clothing, furniture and household goods and emergency services to thousands of needy residents in Trumbull County.

In addition, the conference works with St. Vincent de Paul Society councils in Portage and Ashtabula counties and plans to expand its presence and services in those counties, Jones noted.
